October Halloween Scan To Win At Asda

Just as we thought the wheel had gone after the 1st birthday celebrations for Asda Rewards completed, the wheel returns with a very similar promotion for October!

This time, the promotion runs throughout October 2023. Rather than Spin To Win, this time around they’re calling it Scan To Win, which separates it nicely from This Morning’s Spin To Win on ITV that’s free to enter.

Customers need to scan their Rewards App in store, or have the App linked to their online shopping account with Asda to qualify. The spin is credited to the app after the delivery is completed by the driver to the customer, or collected from Asda by the customer in the case of click and collect.

There are seven different prize amounts on the wheel, ranging from 50p up to £100. Every spin wins a prize, so anyone that qualifies for a spin should receive at least 50p back against their shopping of £5 or more.

According to the App, there are a minimum of just under 7 million prizes to be won (6,974,700 to be precise), with the minimum number of prizes in each category as follows:

PrizeMinimum Prizes
50p4,300,000 (4.3 million)
£1.002,450,000 (2.45 million)
£2.00140,000 (140 thousand)
£3.0070,000 (70 thousand)
£5.007,000 (7 thousand)
£10.007,000 (7 thousand)
£100.00700 (7 hundred)

When you spin the wheel, you’ll see a representation of the prizes available. It’s a circle divided into seven equal sections, each containing one of the amounts in the table above. Tap the screen to spin the wheel, and you’ll win the amount that the wheel stops on.

Is The Asda Scan To Win Game Rigged?

As you probably know, a similar promotion ran during September 2023 to mark the first anniversary of the Asda Rewards App, and some keyboard warriors claimed on social media that the game was fixed or rigged.

Clearly from the terms of the competition, the wheel is far more likely to stop on the 50p or £1 segments or the wheel than the higher amounts.

Last time out in September, based on the number of prizes on offer, it was possible that your chances of winning £1 were higher than 50p. This time though it’s straightforward with the most prizes being for the lowest amount and fewest for the highest.

How Is The Prize Chosen?

Asda have not published details of how the prizes are allocated, however, it’s highly likely that the process involves a random selection from the prizes remaining.

There are two likely possible ways that it’s done, either determined at the point the spin is added to the customer’s App account, or alternatively at the point the customer chooses to spin the wheel.

Either way, the prize won will be represented by where the wheel stops rather than chosen by it.

How Often Can I Spin The Wheel?

You can earn one spin per day at Asda, and each spin can be stored in the App for up to seven days. In theory, that should mean you can save them up and spin up to seven times in a row.

As we noted last month, we’ve seen reports of people getting bonus spins added by Asda when they appear in the app, usually with one or two more spins than expected being added, giving a total of two or three spins.

We said previously that it wasn’t clear whether this was intentional or a bug in the app, and speculated that it was likely that it would have been fixed if there was a problem, so was likely deliberate.

Having seen that this month there are around 30% fewer prizes listed in the terms and conditions of the promotion, perhaps the minimum number of spins were not claimed, so more were given out to customers each time they qualified. Even so, the criteria isn’t clear as to exactly how they were earned.

How Do I Get My Prize?

When you win a prize on the wheel, the amount will be added to your Cashpot in the Asda Rewards App. It often takes a few minutes to appear, so if it’s not there straight away, close the app and check again later.

You can create a voucher in the app using your Cashpot balance to reduce to total at the checkouts in Asda, which just need to be scanned with the items in your basket or trolley. If you shop online for delivery or to collect, any vouchers created should come off your total when you pay online.
